The Wave Awards judging panel is made up of distinguished experts and industry representatives together with our magazine editors. The judging process is in two stages and involves independent scoring followed by round table discussions.
Our Passenger Favourite Awards are the only categories not judged by the panel but instead are voted for by members of the public throughout the year. All other categories are independently reviewed by our judging panel.

Colette Doyle is an award-winning magazine editor who has worked on publications in both London and the Gulf in a career spanning almost three decades. Her background as a linguist has led her to be involved with titles that have an international focus.
Starting out in the 1990s covering the pharmaceutical sector, Colette moved into business travel nearly 20 years ago when she was employed at the UK’s largest privately owned publishing house, Haymarket.
She was based in Dubai for six years, during which time she helmed Business Traveller Middle East, the regional edition of the renowned London franchise, as well as being responsible for relaunching Dubai Voyager, the customer publication for leading airport retailer Dubai Duty Free.
Immediately prior to joining Real Response Media, Colette worked at Metropolis International where she headed up the travel retail channel’s longest-established title and was later appointed as managing editor across both Frontier and sister title Duty-Free News International.
Lesley got hooked on adventure cruising in 2008 and now travels the globe chasing stories and sunshine. An award-winning journalist with more than 30 years’ experience contributing to national, international and regional press. She finds cruising the perfect way to indulge her passions for the arts, architecture, gardens, history and wildlife.

As Associate Vice President and Managing Director, Ben provides leadership to the Royal Caribbean International UK and Ireland business.
In his first three years with the business as Director of Sales, Ben re-engineered the sales team and launched Royal Caribbean’s industry-leading agent recognition programme, ‘Club Royal’ – both key steps in building and rewarding the business’ strong trade relationships and helping convert more holiday makers to cruising.
One of the industry’s most dynamic leaders, Ben’s insight, innovation and leadership has been integral to the growth of the UK market.
Ben has exceptional experience of working with high profile international brands, having previously held a number of senior roles at PepsiCo International both domestically and abroad during his 17 years there. It’s this big brand experience that has enabled him to successfully build on Royal Caribbean’s existing industry-leading track record within the cruise sector.

Claire is the Senior Commercial Manager at the Advantage Travel Partnership, the UK’s largest independent travel agent group.
Claire is happy to admit to being a travel addict in every sense but particularly for cruise. She regularly cruises both for work and for pleasure and loves that every brand, ship and port of call offers guests something different.
Claire says she is lucky enough to have some amazing experiences whilst cruising but one that sticks in her mind would definitely be sailing into Puerto Rico with a glass of champagne on the helipad of a cruise ship.

With over 30 years in the Cruise Industry Bernard Carter is a true veteran (although he would likely dispute this!), working in various sectors from contemporary (NCL & Festival) to ultra-luxury (Silversea & The World of ResidenSea) before joining the Upper-Premium sector leader, Oceania Cruises in 2005. In this time he has seen many changes across the industry, from brand offerings to promotional strategies and commercial channels. Jos Dewing is the Global Managing Director of multi award-winning cultural cruise line Voyages to Antiquity (VTA), with responsibility over sales, marketing and operations worldwide. Jos has quite a unique perspective on the cruise industry having run a large cruise specialist travel agency and tour operator, sat as a Director on the board of a major cruise operator being directly involved in a number of cruise line acquisitions and also founded and owned a travel technology and marketing company focused on cruise at the tender age of 25. Jos has cruised with over 15 different cruise lines and is a solid advocate of innovative product development and digital marketing.
Jos’ experience across the industry vocationally and in terms of product experiences enables a balanced view on the industry today.

From restaurant reviewer for Asia Life in Cambodia, to trainee gaucho on a farm in Argentina, food, travel and lifestyle writer/photographer Heidi Fuller-Love travels widely, and regularly contributes features, and photos to 68+ publications around the globe. She also travels the world reporting live from different destinations for her award-winning Meet The Locals travel podcast for British Airways in flight radio and she contributes to the BBC’s iconic From Our Own Correspondent. An ardent fan of life on board she has cruised in countless regions ranging from the Galapagos Islands, to Africa and Kerala. She contributes regularly to the the UK’s World of Cruising, Cruise Trade News and Cruise Destinations.

Andrew has been involved in the travel Industry for way longer that he cares to think having founded Victoria Travel in 1984 – which later became Cruise.co.uk . He was responsible for the growth of Cruise Reader Holidays in the 1980’s and 1990’s and pioneered the start of Caribbean Cruise and Disney Holidays. He was also appointed the UK General Sales agent for numerous cruise lines including Rennaisance Cruises. He oversaw huge growth and change in Cruise.co.uk making it one of the largest online cruise agents in Europe until he left the company when it was sold in 2016 .
Andrew is now Chairman of Bluebay Travel which is an online travel agency and Operator Specialising in Caribbean and Mexico Holidays who have also just launched their new Worldwide Exclusivity Brand. He is also Non Executive Chairman of a Pharmaceutical Company and Business Advisor.
CEO, Cosmos Tours & Cruises
Giles has over 25 years’ experience in the UK tour operation and cruise sectors of the travel industry. He is currently CEO of Cosmos, the UK experts in escorted tours, combined tour and rail journeys and ocean and river cruises, offering more than 200 crafted itineraries available across 80 captivating destinations worldwide. Giles cites his first role with the UK’s largest ski tour operator as a determining factor in developing his clear focus on putting the traveller first in everything he does. He is chairman of the newly formed Association of Tourism and Adventure Suppliers (ATAS), runs his own small tour operation, South Downs Way Tours, and is deputy chair of Cruise Lines Association International (CLIA) UK. In his spare time, he is a keen cyclist, runner and skier. Giles loves spending time with his family and when time allows drinking good quality Burgundy. His favourite travel destinations are: Cornwall, Chamonix, New Zealand and the Rockies.
Managing Director, Mundy Cruising
A true ‘early adopter’, Edwina boasts a lifetime’s work in the cruise industry, stretching back to the early years at Fred.Olsen where she started work as a fresh-faced graduate in 1982, looking after a range of long gone cruise lines including Sun Line, American Hawaii and Blue Funnel cruises.
After a brief foray into tour operating at the newly formed Redwing Holidays, she returned to the industry she loves in 1989, working for her long term mentor Paul Mundy as sales manager for Royal Viking Line, and later Renaissance Cruises and Crystal Cruises.
In 1999, she and her husband Matthew purchased Paul and Judith Mundy’s business in a management buyout, and they have continued to focus on the luxury end of the market, in addition to expedition cruising and a few quirky one-offs, through their acclaimed and respected brands Mundy Cruising, The Cruise Portfolio and Mundy Adventures.

Dave, aka Shipmonk, has been writing about cruising full-time since giving up his job as deputy editor of Metro newspaper in 2016. As well as his award-winning blog, shipmonk.co.uk, he contributes to World of Cruising, the Daily Mirror, Telegraph online and Metro.co.uk. Among his 13 cruises in 2018, Dave attended the launches of Symphony of the Seas, Carnival Horizon, Norwegian Bliss and Marella Explorer. Thousands follow him for regular updates on cruise news and reviews on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. This will be his third year as a judge in The Wave Awards.
Managing Director UK, Holland America Line & Seabourn
Lynn Narraway’s career spans most sectors of the travel industry including retail, tour operating, airlines and of course cruising.
After completing a university degree Lynn worked as a travel agent, then for American Airlines, British Airways Holidays and ILG Holidays before joining one of the UK’s largest cruising general sales agents, where she gained experience in marketing a wide range of different cruise companies. In January 1999, the business was purchased by Carnival Corporation and Lynn was employed to head this new UK office as Managing Director UK of Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Lines, based near Tower Bridge in London.
In November 2011, Lynn was appointed as Managing Director of Seabourn and Holland America Line’s joint office, based at Carnival House in Southampton, alongside sister Carnival UK brands.
MSC Cruises Managing Director, UK and Ireland
Antonio Paradiso joined MSC Cruises as Trade Manager for Austria, Germany and Switzerland in 2010. Since joining the world’s largest privately owned cruise company he has worked in over 30 countries as Executive Director and comes to the role of MD for the UK and Ireland with a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise.
Born in Brighton to a British mother and an Italian father Antonio has a real passion for the UK and is very delighted to be leading the UK & Irish markets at such an exciting time. Since taking up the position in 2016 Antonio has focused on growing the business in the UK and is proud to have achieved unprecedented growth across the UK & Irish markets. With a trade focused approach Antonio’s first action was to grow the sales team in order to provide a hands on approach. With a new Director of Sales and a larger on the ground team the impact has been obvious and MSC Cruises reputation in the UK is going from strength to strength. A strategist with solid reputation for driving top revenue numbers while providing quality product, Lucia is a results-driven professional, skilful at building strong and successful international teams by adeptly coordinating people from different backgrounds, nationalities, and positions. Fluent in 4 languages with proficiency in 5th she is very keen to embark onto new travel & tourism projects and contribute to the best of her abilities to the success of the AWTE.
Marketing & PR Director, UK&I and MEA, Norwegian Cruise Line
Karen Sequeira is responsible for the Marketing and PR strategy for premium cruise line ‘Norwegian Cruise Line’ across the UK & Ireland, and Middle East and Africa. Sequeira has over 25 years’ solid marketing and PR experience in both the cruise and hospitality sectors, formerly as Head of Marketing & PR for Azamara Club Cruises, and before that she was Director of Marketing for Europe at Millennium & Copthorne Hotels. She has also previously held management positions at Carnival UK, Hilton International and Hurtigruten; and has lectured in Marketing at the University of Portsmouth. She holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management.
Managing Director, Silversea Cruises, UK & Ireland
Peter joined Silversea in January 2018 after spending 3 years at Imagine Cruising supporting their rapid growth and development in the Cruise and Stay sector. Prior to that Peter spent 14 years with the Carnival Corporation in a number of senior roles across Carnival UK, Princess Cruises and Ocean Village – most notably as President and Managing Director of Cunard Line at an exciting time of their growth and led the introduction of Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. Peter also has extensive retail experience gained as Managing Director of Going Places and Commercial Director of Thomas Cook. Peter started his career at Cosmos learning all aspects of tour operating. In his new role with Silversea, Peter’s extensive experience across a number of travel sectors means he is well placed to lead the planned growth and expansion of Silversea in the UK & Ireland, Middle East and Africa markets.
Managing Director, Titan Travel
Over 20 years in the travel industry working across both tour operations and cruise. Following time at STA Travel and Swan Hellenic Cruises, much of his career has been spent at Titan Travel, starting as Cruise Product Manager, developing Titan’s third party cruise partnerships and expanding their range of Cruise & Tour holidays. A number of career progressions followed, including heading up the overall product offering for Titan, gaining valuable experience of the wider escorted tour segment. He became Director of Product & Operations in 2015, and has been Managing Director for Titan Travel since 2016.
VP Marketing, Cunard
Angus has worked for Carnival UK since 2013 and is responsible for managing the Cunard brand and all UK marketing activity. Responsibilities include ensuring the Cunard experience exceeds the expectations of today’s ever-discerning travellers and growing its status as an iconic British brand on the world stage.
Prior to joining the cruise industry with Cunard, Angus was in charge of global public relations for the online travel review site, TripAdvisor, seeing it grow in to the world’s most visited travel portal. In 1998 he joined Virgin Atlantic Airways, and in nearly a dozen years he held various senior positions, from running the Advertising and Communications teams, to starting up and building the Service Design team to managing the Product and Service team for the Upper Class experience. Key projects worked on include launching the Upper Class Suite, the Heathrow Clubhouse, new check-in terminals and defining and integrating the company’s service mantra, “Brilliant Basics, Magic Touches”.
Angus graduated with a BA Hons degree in Leisure with Business management at Manchester University.
Managing Director UK, Uniworld
Chris Townson is Managing Director at Uniworld and U by Uniworld, the world’s no1 luxury river cruise line operating in Europe and long haul Exotic destinations. Chris joined Uniworld in late 2017 and continues to build on the early success of Uniworld with key trade partners in the UK.
Chris has over 30 years experience in the travel industry and during this time has been MD at Scenic, Emerald Waterways, Tradewinds and Jetset, mainly working in the luxury sector and the last 12 years with a primary focus in the river industry. He has seen huge developments of the river sector and been involved with many of those changes during this time including 2 UK river cruise brand launches.
In addition to on-going engagement with valued trade partners, delivering promotional campaigns and rewarding and educating agents via a large FAM support plan, Uniworld are also developing new business with partners who specialise in the luxury sector. Many potential customers who buy luxury holidays may not be aware that there is a river cruise company who can deliver to their exacting standards and working with new luxury partners who have these guests is producing great results.
Managing Director UK and Ireland, Azamara Club Cruises
Richard Twynam is Azamara Club Cruises Managing Director, UK and Ireland, and he has held the position since January 2014. Bringing 20 years of experience in the travel industry, he leads a UK and Ireland team dedicated to the destination immersive travel brand and raising its profile in the UK and Ireland.
Richard launched cruise into the Austravel programme in 2008, and then joined one of the UK’s largest cruise distributors, Virgin Holidays Cruises as Managing Director in October 2010, delivering record results. In 2013 Richard was approached by Kuoni to create and launch the Kuoni cruise programme, and in the Autumn of 2013, was asked to be Azamara Club Cruises first ever UK Managing Director.
Richard has also worked as Head of Sales UK & Ireland for Air New Zealand and Leisure Sales Manager UK & Ireland for Cathay Pacific Airways.
Managing Director, ROL Cruise
Sarah joined ROL Cruise in 2005 as a Marketing Executive. Her cruising journey had begun a few years prior, creating a passion for the industry which led her to a succession of promotions at ROL and she was announced a Board Director in 2017. With Sarah being instrumental in driving business forward to a record breaking year, she was announced Managing Director on 4th May 2018. At this point Jeremy Dickinson was able to take on the more strategic role of Chairman. Sarah now continues to drive cruise sales and partnerships still further, accelerating the success and growth of the business and certainly playing a huge part in the company swelling from a compliment of 40 staff in 2005 to the current 125.
ROL can boast winning over 50 cruise industry awards over the past 10 years, something that Sarah has hugely contributed towards with ‘Best Cruise Retailer’ at the 2016 British Travel Awards being high on her list of proud achievements. Earlier this year Sarah was instrumental in ROL Cruise winning ‘Top Partner’ Awards from both Cunard and Azamara Club Cruises, as well as a 2nd place award in the ‘Top Cruise Agency’ category at the TTG Top 50 Awards. Sarah’s passion for cruise has also been fuelled by her extensive travels, with the Amalfi Coast being her very favourite place.
A former newspaper journalist, Jeannine is now an award-winning travel writer and cruise specialist who contributes to a variety of consumer and trade magazines, newspapers and websites. Her worldwide travels have taken her to well-known and remote destinations around the world and include paddling along part of the Mississippi in a wooden dug-out canoe to sailing on the world’s largest ships. She is a river cruise expert and has travelled extensively on waterways throughout Europe and Asia, including Russia, China, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia.
Director of Destinations and Sustainability, ABTA
Nikki White is ABTA’s Head of Destinations & Sustainability with responsibility for destination government liaison, sustainability, operations, crisis management and health & safety in destinations. Nikki chairs a number of committees, including the Federation of Tour Operators. Nikki represents the UK on ECTAA’s destinations and sustainability committee, sits on the WTM advisory council and is a judge for the Responsible Tourism Awards.
Nikki has gained an impressive grasp of travel and tourism strategy over her years as Head of Strategy and Development at travel and leisure marketing experts Fox Kalomaski. Here she worked with a number of destinations as well as specialist agents, tour operators and airlines devising a range of strategic policies. Nikki’s expertise in sustainable tourism has been enhanced by her completion of a Masters degree in Leadership for Sustainable Development.
Chief Executive Officer, Accord Marketing
Sally joined DMGT in 1987 and stayed for the next 21 years. In 2004, she was appointed Managing Director of Loot. Today, she is the CEO of Accord Marketing, the UK’s leading travel marketing agency, working with luxury hotels to international airlines, tour operators to tourist boards and of course major cruise lines and cruise agents.
